All the local high school events reported Tuesday to the Southeast Missourian.

Junior Andre Statam hit a layup with three seconds left in overtime to send the Central boys basketball team to a 52-50 victory over visiting McCracken County, Ky., on Tuesday.

The Mustangs had scored the first two points of overtime before Central's Jamal Cox scored the last of his 20 points to tie the game. The Tigers controlled the ball the final minute and Statam drove from the top of the key for the winning basket.

Central improved to 5-7, while McCracken County fell to 11-6.

"They're very good," Central coach Drew Church said. "They had beat some really good teams. We're happy. We've had three really close games and finally found a way to win one at the end."

Central trailed 30-24 at halftime and faced a 42-37 deficit at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Tigers tied the scored midway through the fourth quarter. Central held possession of the ball the final two minutes of regulation but failed to score.

Statam finished with 11 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Al Young also netted 11 points.

Kam Chumbler, who finished with 14 points, and Caleb Stonecipher, who had 12 points, both hit four 3-pointers for McCracken County.

Dylan Keller scored a game-high 24 points as the Rams rolled to a win at home.

The Rams outscored Delta by 19 points in the second quarter to lead 43-20 at halftime.

Braden Cox recorded 19 points and six rebounds for Scott City (6-8), while Isiah Berry added 13 points and six assists. Trent Pobst added 11 points.

Jack Lake sank a game-high 26 points, grabbed 19 rebounds and blocked seven shots to lead the top-seeded Crusaders to victory over the eighth-seeded Meteors in the opening round of the Chester Invitational Tournament in Chester, Ill.

Hunter Coe and Ryan Palmer dished out five assists apiece and Elwood Voss grabbed six rebounds to help lead Saxony Lutheran (8-5) to victory.

Freshman Kyle Smith notched a team-high 22 points for the Meteors (0-10).

The Crusaders will face fifth-seeded Chester at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in a championship semifinal. The Meteors will play fourth-seeded Perryville in a 6 p.m. consolation semifinal.

After breezing through the Delta New Year's Tournament over the weekend, the Crusaders returned to their home court in dominating form.

Raegan Wieser and Brianna Mueller each posted a game-high 19 points for Saxony Lutheran (9-2). Wieser also recorded five steals while Ashlynn Collier tallied 11 rebounds.

Katie Mattingly notched eight points and five rebounds to pace St. Vincent (3-8).

Jackson posts two wins

The Jackson wrestling team picked up two easy wins in a quad dual on the road in De Soto, Mo.

The Indians rolled over host De Soto 59-7 and then thumped rival Central 77-6.

Jackson's Payne Guilliams (120 pounds), Clayton Collier (152), Gabe Dudley (160) and heavyweight Preston Hobeck all won both of their matches for the Indians.

Central also lost 77-0 to Farmington.

Central wins meet

Host Central captured first in two events to post 535 points and win its quintet meet at the Central Municipal Pool.

Sophomore Josey Powell posted a first-place time of 1 minute, 0.67 seconds in the 100 freestyle for Central. Powell also swam with the first-place team of Maddie Siefert, Josie Young and Maddy McDonald in the 200 medley relay to help clinch the gold for the Tigers.

Poplar Bluff followed in second place with an overall team score of 462.

Jackson sophomore standout Caitlyn Palmer took first place in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley, while senior teammate Morgan Maguire received gold in the 500 freestyle. Jackson sophomore Sydney Deneke also won the diving competition for the Indians.

Saxony Lutheran freshman Elizabeth Kiefner placed first in two events for the Crusaders. Senior Natalie King won the 100 backstroke to pace Perryville/St. Vincent.
