The Central boys used strong free-throw shooting to turn back Poplar Bluff 36-29 in the first round of the SEMO Conference basketball tournament Monday night in Sikeston, Mo.
The Tigers were 19 of 22 from the line on the night, including 9-of-10 shooting over the final five minutes of the game.
Andrew Williams led the Tigers (4-0) with 16 points, while James Lane added eight points and eight rebounds. Zach Boerboom added eight points and seven rebounds for the Tigers, who will face the winner of tonight's first-round game between Notre Dame and Dexter in Thursday's semifinals.

Chelsea Vinson and Alayah Cooper-Johnson both recorded a double-double, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers (1-3) fell on the road.
Vinson recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Cooper-Johnson netted 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Tori Scheller added seven rebounds in the loss.

Scott City took a 12-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as it defeated host Chaffee 49-10 in the first round of the Chaffee tournament.
Katie Hogan led the Rams (3-0) with 11 points, 10 rebounds and nine blocked shots. Courtney Bentley added 10 points.
Sikeston defeated Oran 72-41 in other first-round action.
Cheyanne King paced the Eagles with 20 points, while Haley Glastetter added 11.
Kelly, the No. 2 seed, rallied from a halftime deficit to beat No. 7 Woodland 48-41.
Kayla Hicks led the Hawks with 21 points, while Kristen Powell added 14 points.
Kendra Pinkley netted 18 points for Woodland.
