The Indians' defense will be challenged again this week, facing a Parkway North team that scored 56 points while rushing for 258 yards against Central last week. ... Jackson's offense will need to play better after turning the ball over four times in its season opener. Junior quarterback Marcus Harris, who tossed two interceptions, must overcome any first-game nerves he might have experienced and find a connection with his talented group of receivers and tight ends, including Cody Randen and Adam Zweig.

A key for Chaffee will be its ground attack. Ten different Red Devils combined for 30 handoffs for 133 yards last week. ... Look for Jerrod Steger and Dylan McAlister to share the majority of the carries.

Portageville (0-1) at Scott City (1-0)

Last week: Scott City 14, Malden 6; Piggott, Ark. 33, Portageville 7.

Notes: Portageville last won a game Oct. 14, 2005. ... After an easy 30-point victory last year, Scott City should be able to jump out to a 2-0 start under new head coach Ronnie Jones. ... The Rams' defense, which returned six starters from last season and is lead by all-region second-team linebacker Cody Carlyle, had a strong first week, holding on to an eight-point lead by stopping Malden on four plays in the red zone in the final two minutes. ... Look for both the offense and defense to play well against a struggling Portageville squad.

Notes: After surrendering eight touchdowns and 258 yards rushing last week, the Tigers need to play stronger defense against NMCC. ... The linemen and linebackers need to be more aggressive. ... The defensive linemen combined for 12 tackles, which helps explains the 8.06 yards per carry that Parkway North averaged last week. ... The defensive backs were forced to come up and make plays, combining for 28 tackles. ... Linebacker play needs to improve as that group made 19 tackles. ... Returning starters Cody Mayes and David Ludolph will need to anchor the line.

Perryville (1-0) at De Soto (0-1)

Notes: Perryville needs to improve in two areas from last week's performance: Play better in the first half and stop the run. ... The Pirates came out flat last week, getting behind 13-0 in the second quarter and trailing 13-7 at the break against a team that has not won a game in a couple years. ... Kris Cottner struggled running the ball early before rushing for 104 yards in the second half. ... New quarterback Josh Perreault put up most of his passing and rushing numbers after halftime adjustments were made. ... Look for Perryville to play better offense in the first half by running out of both the pistol and I-formations. ... Ryan Lorenz, who finished with more than 80 receiving yards last week, will likely be called on again to make some catches while playing tight end, wide out and split end. ... On the defensive side, the Pirates surrendered too many long runs from scrimmage. ... Coach Rick Chastain said after the game that he will make some adjustments to the tackle and linebacker schemes.

Look for him to again lead an attack that could have some difficulties against Park Hill Central. ... Justin L'Hote completed 3 of his 9 passes last week for 36 yards.
