Dexter improved to 6-1 overall, and solidified its hold on the top spot in district play with 44.56 points.

Meanwhile, Kennett dropped to 4-3, and finished the home slate with a mediocre 2-2 mark.

Kennett didn't go down without a fight in the second half as senior Kylan Henson scored on a TD long run and senior Jack Morrison made a highlight-reel TD catch — connecting with quarterback Tyquavious Jones.

This marked Dexter's first win in the series since 2015, which featured a thrilling 38-35 result. Kennett had won nine contests in a row, including a pair in the postseason.

The series between the schools dates back to the 1920s.

Next week

Both Kennett and Dexter will face stern tests next week. The Indians travel to face Poplar Bluff. The Bearcats also hit the road to take on Park Hills Central. Both games will start at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13.
