Southeast Missouri's only state football championship contender will take its shot today in the Class 1 final in St. Louis.

No. 2 Hayti (11-1) will meet No. 3 Adrian (12-1) at noon today for the state title at the Edward Jones Dome in the second day of state high school championships.

The Indians have never won a state football championship.

Kearney 36, Eureka 22

Benny Palmer went 8-of-11 for 119 yards and a touchdown as Kearney defeated Eureka 36-22 in the Class 4 championship.

The Bulldogs pulled ahead in the third quarter, scoring three unanswered touchdowns, including Alec Wepler's 46-yard return of Darnell Terrell's fumble.

St. Pius 28, Centralia 6

Senior running back Willie Cashmore ran for two touchdowns and passed for another, leading St. Pius X to a 28-6 victory Friday over Centralia in the Class 2 championship.

The Warriors (11-3), who started the season 0-3, scored all of their points in the second quarter, cruising to their third state title in the past five years and fourth overall. St. Pius' championships came in 1981, 1998 and 2000.

Rockhurst 41, Lindbergh 7

Tony Temple rushed for 143 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Rockhurst to a 41-7 win over Lindbergh in the Class 6 championship.

The state title was the seventh for the Hawklets (13-0). Lindbergh fell to 10-3.

Temple, a 5-foot9, 186-pound junior, finished the season with 32 touchdowns and 2,034 yards on 253 carries.
