The Kelly girls basketball team handed Charleston its first loss of the season at the Twin Rivers tournament Monday.

Debra Hall scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Hawks to the 49-32 victory.

Sam Fischer snagged nine boards in the win. Londyn Backfisch finished with 14 points for Kelly (6-0).

The Hawks return to action in the tournament Friday when they face Portageville in the semifinals.

North County tournament

Meadow Heights fell behind by 12 points at halftime and couldn't dig out of the hole against Miller Career Academy in the semifinal round.

Heather Dietiker led the Panthers (5-2) with 12 points, including a 3-pointer in the 66-46 loss.

Meadow Heights shot 41 percent (9 of 22) from the free-throw line.

The Panthers will play for third place today at 2 p.m.

Perryville advanced to the consolation championship game with a 73-43 victory over Saxony Lutheran.

Ava Johnson paced the Pirates with 19 points, while Emily Hanquist and Alicia Kueker scored 17 apiece.

Kara Versemann led the Crusaders with 13 points and Brooke Valleroy added 10.

BOYS BASKETBALL Saxony Lutheran tourney

Saxony Lutheran exploded for 50 points in the first half.

The Crusaders cruised from there, posting a 78-22 victory over New Salem.

Bryant Steffens finished with 15 points, including three 3-pointers.

The Crusaders advanced to today's 7:30 p.m. championship game against Metro.

St. Vincent will play Valle for third place at 6 p.m., and Eagle Ridge and New Salem will square off at 4:30 p.m. for fifth place.
