Kelly took a 16-9 lead into the second quarter and extended the margin to 33-19 by halftime.

Justin Wierman scored a team-high nine points for Oran.

"You could tell we were off school all week," said Kelly coach Kent Mangels. "We played hard, but not very well. We have a lot of work to do before the conference tournament. We'll take the win."

Kelly opens Scott Mississippi Conference tournament play Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. against Oak Ridge.

DeSoto 63, St. Vincent 53

DESOTO -- DeSoto broke open a tight game late, outscoring St. Vincent 16-8 in the final four minutes in a Jefferson County Conference game.

Jonathan Wengert led St. Vincent (2-9, 0-3 conference) with 17 points. Chad Winkler added 16 points for the Indians.

Brian Bourbon paced DeSoto with 18 points, but well below his 30-point average.

DeSoto led 26-25 at halftime and took a 45-40 lead into the fourth quarter.

"They hit their free throws down the stretch and we didn't execute," said St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy.

St. Vincent will host Crystal City on Tuesday and host Fredericktown on Thursday in a makeup game.

Girls basketball

Jackson 52, Oakville 40

OAKVILLE -- Michele Millham netted 17 points as Jackson eased past Oakville Friday night.

Shannon Perry added 13 points for Jackson (10-2). Oakville saw just three girls find the scoring column.

The Lady Indians led 12-6 after one quarter and 24-16 at halftime. Jackson took a 45-34 lead into the fourth quarter.

Jackson will host Charleston today in a 1:30 p.m. makeup game.

Central win triangular meet

ST. LOUIS -- Cape Central's swim team defeated McClure North and Hazelwood East in a triangular meet Friday, accumulating 137 points.

McClure North was second with 100 points and Hazelwood East third with 88.

Of 18 Central participants, nine swam personal bests. The Tigers won six events.

"We're hoping our Christmas training is kicking in and paying off," said Cape Central coach Dana Powell.

Central won the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.

Matt Younghouse won the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle while Eric Yount won both the 100 and 200 freestyle events. Both swimmers were on the winning relays.

Central, 6-5, will face Oakville on Tuesday at Mehlville High School.
