The stellar pitching of Cassie Gross and one run was all Cape Girardeau Central High School's softball team needed to pick up an impressive victory Tuesday.

Gross fired a four-hitter, with two strikeouts and no walks, as the host Lady Tigers knocked off a solid Seckman squad 1-0.

"Cassie threw very well," said Central coach Amy Blattel, whose team is now 17-5. "It was a very well played game, with neither team making an error."

Central scored the game's lone run in the fourth inning. Alex Wieser singled, was sacrificed to second by Sarah Muench and came home on a double by Amber Voerg.

Voerg had two of the Lady Tigers' four hits.

Seckman's junior varsity posted a 2-1 victory.

Notre Dame 8, Twin Rivers 5

BROSELY, Mo. -- Notre Dame probably should have lost.

But after a controversial call in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Notre Dame Lady Bulldogs escaped with a nine-inning win.

After a Twin Rivers runner scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, Notre Dame thought it had been beat. But an umpire ruled that the runner left too early and the call gave Notre Dame new life.

The Lady Bulldogs (14-7) were actually down 5-4 heading into the seventh inning, but Ahsley Reinagel hit a clutch, two-out RBI single to extend the game.

"It was a wild and wooly game," said Notre Dame coach Chris Janet.

Notre Dame scored three runs in the ninth. Stacy Schwartz scored the only run the Lady Bulldogs would need as she walked and later scored on a wild pitch. Stacy Seyer also had an RBI single in the inning.

Seyer was the offensive star for Notre Dame, going 5-for-5 with three RBIs and four stolen bases.
