Notre Dame senior wrestler Emma Steimle (21-4) advanced to Thursday’s bouts after a pair of wins in the Class 1 State Tournament on Wednesday in Columbia.
Steimle won by fall over Taylor Glidewell of Cassville (31-12) in the first round of the championship bracket in the 190-pound weight class. She was pinned in the quarterfinal round by Lily Burns of Tipton (44-2), dropping her to the consolation bracket. She rebounded with a win by fall over Sophie Meyer of St. Pius X (16-6) in the second round of the consolation bracket.
Steimle is slated to take on Aubree Castaneda of Holden in the third round of consultation.
Sikeston has two wrestlers who are guaranteed to finish no lower than sixth place. Jasmynne Green (22-13) won by fall over Payton Coe of Odessa (24-16) in the first round and defeated Mary Jastal of Monett (38-9) by a 2-1 decision in the quarterfinals. Green is slated to face Delanie Smith of Mid-Buchanan in the semifinal round of the 105-pound bracket.
Alayna Ray (35-4) won by a 30-second fall over Destynee Small of Kirksville (16-15) and won by fall over Selena Snell of University Academy Charter (21-10) in the quarterfinal round. Ray is slated to face Sarah Huffman of Versailles in the semifinal round of the 235-pound bracket.
