The Scott City girls basketball team’s quest for a third straight winning season began on Monday, Nov. 20, with a 61-44 win on the road over Advance.
Lilyan Landis led the Rams with 17 points. Ramsey Spinks and Mackenzie Lawless each scored nine points.
The Rams were near automatic from the charity stripe, having made 15-of-17 free throws.
Advance was lead by Natalee Roper, who scored 12 points. Kylee Cline added 11 points for the Hornets, who were 5-of-11 from the free throw line.
Gracie Karrenbrock scores all six of her points in the first quarter to contribute to the Rams’ 17-5 lead in the opening period. Ramsey Spinks scored all of her eight points in the first half, six in the second quarter, as the Rams went into halftime with a 31-14 lead.
Eight of the Hornets’ 14 first half points came from Roper.
Advance played better in the second half, beginning with a 16-point third quarter. Maggie Stubenrauch scored eight of her 10 points in the second half highlighted by two baskets from the three-point line. Eight of Cline’s 11 points also came in the second half.
It wasnt enough for the Hornets, who were outscored 29-28 in the second half.
Lily Elders scored all four of her points in the third quarter from the free throw line. Eight of the Rams’ 14 third quarter points game from the charity stripe.
Landis and Lawless combined to score 11 points in the fourth quarter to ice the game for Scott City.
Advance finished last year 6-19 after back-to-back winning seasons. The Hornets host St. Vincent on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m.
Scott City travel north to Perryville to take on the Pirates on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m.
Both teams will compete in the Lady Red Devils Classic in December.
