Gillespie, Glastetter had big days in district meet

Scott County Central's D.D. Gillespie and Oran's Haley Glastetter were event winners and sectional qualifiers in multiple events during Saturday's Class 1 District 1 track meet hosted by the Missouri School for the Deaf.

Saxony Lutheran finished third in both the boys and girls teams standings. The Crusaders had nine boys entries advance, including four first-place finishes, while the girls had eight qualifiers, including one first.

The Scott County Central boys placed fifth in the team standings, paced by Gillespie's winning time of 52.09 in the 400 meters. The Braves won the 800 relay, and Gillespie also qualified with a runner-up finish in the 200.

Jarron Banks was a multiple qualifier for the Braves, placing second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles.

Caleb Johnson advanced in the high jump with a fourth-place finish.

Glastetter won one event and placed in three others for Oran.

She captured the 100 hurdles in 17.96 seconds. She also was third in the 100 and 200 sprints and fourth in the 400, a race that featured defending state champ Cassie Simpher of Saxony finishing second to defending 100 and 200 state champ Chetara Watkins of Missouri School for the Deaf.

Tiffany Christian of Oran moved on with a runner-up finish in the discus.

Scott County Central's 400 relay team placed fourth to advance.
