SIKESTON — Budding soccer stars gathered at the Sports Complex in Sikeston from May 30 through June 2 for the Ninth Annual Sikeston Bulldog Youth Soccer Camp.

Over the course of the weekend, 42 children from first through seventh grade along with 30 alumni and current players, took part in the camp, with the older players helping to guide and instruct the younger ones on the finer points of the game.

“I feel the camp went well due to all of our alumni and current players helping run everything. We had over 40 kids in attendance and the overall mood was mostly fun.

“I believe connecting with the community and the future of Sikeston Soccer is the most important part of the camp,” said Sikeston boys’ and girls’ head soccer coach Gabe Dement. “It’s kind of a family reunion of sorts with future, current, and past Sikeston soccer players all coming together to help develop the younger players in the community.”

As the youth camp came to a close, the young athletes left the field with a newfound appreciation for the game and the skills to take their performance to the next level.

With the support of experienced coaches and dedicated alumni, the future of Sikeston’s soccer programs looks bright, and it’s clear that the community’s passion for the sport will continue to thrive for years to come.
