FREDERICKTOWN -- Fredericktown High football coach Kent Gibbs realizes that Ste. Genevieve is not nearly as strong this year as the Dragons have been in seasons past.

But that can't take away from the Black Cats' 15-12 victory over the Dragons Friday night that marked Fredericktown's first win over Ste. Genevieve since 1983.

The Black Cats improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in Mineral Area Activities Association Play. Ste. Genevieve is also 2-1.

"With the kind of tradition Ste. Genevieve has, it's a big win for us," said Gibbs. "They're not the team they've been, but it's still a great accomplishment for our program."

Derek Smith and Clay Hendrix scored Fredericktown's touchdowns, both on 1-yard runs. Smith also ran a conversion while Chris Reagan kicked an extra point.
