RED SOX: Frank Castillo dropped his appeal of a five-game suspension and isn't expected to miss a start for Boston. Castillo was suspended June 19 in San Diego after arguing a balk call made by three umpires.
Also Monday, ace Pedro Martinez said he will not go to the All-Star game, instead staying home so he can be better prepared to help the Red Sox in the second half of the season.
YANKEES: The club acquired outfielder Raul Mondesi from the Blue Jays for a minor league pitcher, hoping the slumping slugger can give them production in a position that's been lagging this season.
INTERLEAGUE: Attendance for interleague games was up almost 20 percent from levels for in-league contests. Figures released by the commissioner's office showed total attendance of 8,022,524 for 251 games between the two leagues.
