Foul problems, poor shooting play role in Missouri's loss

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Cartier Martin had 18 points and 10 rebounds, his first double-double of the season, to lead Kansas State to a 74-54 victory over Missouri on Saturday night.

Jeremiah Massey added 17 points and Fred Peete had 14 for the Wildcats.

Kansas State (11-3, 1-2 Big 12) broke a seven-game losing streak against the Tigers.

Missouri (9-7, 1-2) dropped to 0-5 on the road this season. This time, everything that could go wrong did. The Tigers trailed 33-22 at the break and never got closer than nine points after that.

The Tigers' 26 team fouls -- including four charges -- gave Kansas State a huge free-throw advantage. The Wildcats shot 25-for-34 from the line to Missouri's 7-for-15.

Missouri tried to go outside to make up the early deficit but shot just 1-for-13 from 3-point range in the first half and 5-for-26 for the game.

Two 3-pointers from Linas Kleiza, who led Missouri with 14 points before fouling out, kept the Tigers close late in the game. But after his second 3-pointer cut Kansas State's lead to 61-52 with 3:55 left, Missouri didn't score again until Jimmy McKinney's layup with less than a minute to go. By then, the Wildcats had put together a 13-0 run -- nine of those from the line -- for a 74-52 lead.
