JACKSON -- Cape Girardeau's Ford & Sons American Legion baseball team completed a season sweep of Jackson Friday night by sweeping a road doubleheader.

Ford & Sons, which had swept Jackson earlier in the season in Cape Girardeau, prevailed 3-1 and 12-2. Cape improved to 29-13 overall and 14-4 in District 14 play.

Nathan McGuire won a pitcher's duel against Greg Lincoln in the tight opener. McGuire allowed just two hits -- both coming in the seventh and final inning -- while striking out eight and walking one.

Lincoln was nearly as effective, giving up only five hits.

Cape grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning and that's the way things stood until the seventh, when Tatum Kitchen belted a two-run home run to give Ford & Sons some breathing room.

Jackson countered with its lone run in the bottom of the seventh as Zane McClard doubled and Lincoln singled. But the rally fell short.

The second game was much more comfortable for Ford & Sons, which banged out 10 hits, two each by Jeff Lappe (including a homer) and Lanson DeBrock.

Four Cape pitchers combined on a two-hitter. Craig Ringwald worked two innings and fanned six. Jeff Michel and Todd Pennington both pitched one inning while Jeff Beasley hurled three frames.

Cape will have a key doubleheader Monday, hosting District 14 leader Senath at 5:30 p.m. Senath swept Ford & Sons earlier in the year.
