MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- Cape Legion struck first, then the lightning as Ford & Sons evened its season record with a weather-shortened, 11-7 victory over Murphsysboro.

Ford & Sons, which improved to 15-15, banged out 15 hits before play was stopped in the sixth inning due to lightning.

Matt Bollinger led the offensive by going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and five of his teammates finished with two hits apiece. Mike Sullivan went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Josh McIntosh collected two doubles, Nathan Essner went 2-for-4 and Steve Fowler and Matt Jones each went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Fowler's hits included an RBI triple in a four-run second inning. After Murphysboro had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Cape Legion popped for six of its hits in the second. Bollinger, Jones and Sullivan all had RBI singles in the inning.

The lead grew to 6-1 in the third and to 9-2 in the fourth. Ford & Sons took a 11-3 lead into the sixth, where Murphysboro scored four runs, but play was then stopped.

Justin Cook went all six for the victory. He struck out seven, walked one and allowed 10 hits.

Cape Legion returns to action tonight with a district doubleheader against Dunklin Co. Game time is slated for 6 p.m. at Capaha Field.
