The Cape Girardeau Ford and Sons American Legion squad picked up its first win of the summer with a 4-3 victory over Mountain Home (Ark.) at the Paragould, Ark., Tournament on Saturday.

Ford and Sons (1-1) scored all four runs in the second inning with the help of a two-run home run by Ty Craft and several Mountain Home errors. Trevor Irwin had two of Cape's four hits and added an RBI.

Kirk Boeller pitched all seven innings for Ford and Sons. Boeller allowed five hits, struck out five and walked one.

Ford and Sons will face Jonesboro (Ark.) today in its final game of the tournament.

The Scott County Legion 369 team split two games at the tournament.

Scott County defeated Jonesboro (Ark.) 2A Coca-Cola 8-0 in five innings by the eight-run rule.

John Simpher was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits in five innings.

Shane Menz hit a solo home run in the first inning, and Andy Stephens and Blaine Stewart each added two hits.

In the second game, Scott County committed five errors and fell 9-8 to host Paragould in eight innings.

Matt Seyer pitched the first five innings, and Scott County (2-3) gained an 8-6 lead after six innings, but Paragould scored two runs-- one earned-- in the seventh off reliever Caleb Daughetee. Seyer returned in the eighth inning and allowed the unearned, game-winning run.

At the plate, Daughetee went 4-for-5 with a double, while Menz, Chad Friend and Stewart each had two hits. Aaron Jenkins added a home run.

Jackson sweeps doubleheader at De Soto

The Jackson American Legion team improved to 5-0 with a doubleheader sweep at De Soto.

Jackson won a pair of one-run games, 11-10 and 3-2. In the opener, Jackson came back from a 9-6 deficit in the sixth inning with five runs in the sixth. Zach Ayers picked up the win in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Cameron Heath got the save.

Offensively, Derrick Biri and Brandon Gendron had three hits apiece. Jason Meystedt and Tyler Beussink had two hits apiece for Jackson. Gendron, Meystedt and Brandon Cooper drove in two apiece.

In the second game, Tyrone Reece pitched five innings for the win. Reece struck out six, walked six and allowed five hits. Tony Longman pithced two hit-less innings in relief for the save.

Chad Minson had three hits and an RBI for Jackson in the second game. Rex Meyr added two hits.

Other events

* The Scott County Medicap Post 369 American Legion junior team remained winless after being swept in a doubleheader at Twin Rivers.

In the first game, starting pitcher Rynn Eskew allowed only one hit through five innings to help Medicap to an 8-0 lead, but Medicap surrendered 10 runs in the sixth inning and never recovered.

Blake Dirnberger suffered the loss for Scott County, and Blake Gaddis, Cody Carlyle and Mark Freed each had two hits.

Chris Asmus was the losing pitcher in the nightcap, lasting only three innings.

Dirnberger and Bryce Faulkner had two hits apiece for Medicap.

Scott County (0-6) will play Tuesday at Sikeston.
