Scott City football coach Terry Flannigan is leaving the program for the second time in a decade.

Flannigan took over the Rams at the start of the 2004 season, returning to a school he coached from 1995 to 1998. Just as Flannigan did during his first stint, he left the program on a bit of an upswing.

The Rams had suffered through three straight losing seasons prior to Flannigan's arrival in 2004, but in his first season the Rams finished 8-2. Scott City fell to 3-7 in 2005, but bounced back for a 6-4 record this past season.

"It's kind of like the last time I left," Flannigan said. "The cupboard's not bare. They're going to be real tough [next year]."

Flannigan has accepted the head coaching job at Marionville. Marionville has made the Class 1 championship game in three of the past four seasons and reached the semifinal round in each of the past four seasons.

"It's one of the hardest things I've had to do in quite a while," Flannigan said of his decision to leave. "It's just a good situation for my family and myself. Everything happened really quickly. It was a tough decision. I didn't want to tell people goodbye here."

All-conference omission

Notre Dame junior Mark Himmelberg and sophomore Dylan Drury each earned first-team all-SEMO Conference honors.

Himmelberg is 7-1 on the mound for the Bulldogs this season. Drury has been Notre Dame's top hitter.

Quincy signs Schnurbusch

Notre Dame all-state pitcher Beth Schnurbusch has signed with Quincy University to play softball next season.

Schnurbusch was a two-time all-state pitcher who helped lead the Bulldogs to back-to-back state final fours. Schnurbusch set the record for wins in a season with 20 in Notre Dame's runner-up campaign in 2005, and also set the school record for strikeouts that year with 104.
