Faxon, McCarron lead Shootout

NAPLES, Fla. -- Defending champions Brad Faxon and Scott McCarron combined for an 8-under-par 64 on Friday to take the first-round lead in the Franklin Templeton Shootout.

Raymond Floyd and Stewart Cink were a stroke back after the alternate-shot round on the Tiburon course. A best-ball round is set for Saturday and the event will end with a scramble Sunday.

Last year, Faxon and McCarron won the 12-team tournament at Doral in Miami, with Faxon holing a 2-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff with Carlos Franco and Scott Hoch.

The teams of Lee Janzen-Joe Durant, Jeff Maggert-Mike Hulbert and John Daly-Frank Lickliter opened with 66s.

Dunlop Phoenix

MIYAZAKI, Japan -- British Open champion David Duval shot a 4-under-par 67 to maintain a two-stroke lead after the second round of the Dunlop Challenge.

Duval had a 10-under 132 total. David Gossett (66) was second, and Australia's Aaron Baddeley (66) and Japan's Taichi Teshima (67) followed at 135. Defending champion Shingo Katayama of Japan shot a 65 to join Jerry Kelly (66) and England's Ed Fryatt (69) at 136.

Volvo Masters

JEREZ, Spain -- Ireland's Paul McGinley was 9 under through 12 holes when high wind forced the suspension of play in the second round of the season-ending Volvo Masters.

Sweden's Mathias Gronberg was the leader in the clubhouse, shooting a 5-under 67 for a 137 total. Ireland's Darren Clarke (68) was at 138, followed by Swedes Niclas Fasth (67) and Robert Karlsson (68). Play was halted with 20 of 66 players on the course fighting wind up to 45 mph.
