Farmington and Massac County (Ill.) picked up consolation semifinal wins Thursday during the HealthSouth Holiday Classic girls basketball tournament at the Show Me Center.
Farmington, the No. 5 seed, rode a 37-point outburst by Lisa Boyd to a 71-58 victory over No. 8 seed Perryville.
Massac County, seeded sixth, built a big first-half lead and held off No. 7 Hopkinsville (Ky.) 63-62.
Farmington and Massac County will play at 5:30 p.m. today for fifth place in the eight-team event, following a 4 p.m. seventh-place game between Perryville and Hopkinsville.
Boyd, a 6-foot-2 senior center who is headed to the University of Missouri on a volleyball scholarship, was held to just six points during Farmington's loss to Cape Girardeau Central in the opening round of the tournament.
But Boyd bounced back with what is believed to be a tournament scoring record as the Knightettes improved their record to 6-2 and dropped Perryville to 3-4.
While no other Farmington player scored more than eight points, Perryville placed four in double figures, led by Jamie Amberger with 14 points. Stacy Baer and Natalie Bohnert had 13 each while April Lorenz added 11.
Farmington led just 31-27 at halftime but outscored Perryville 16-9 in the third quarter as the Knightettes began to pull away.
Massac County built a 43-28 halftime lead over Hopkinsville but the Lady Patriots had to hold off a furious rally to prevail.
Sarah Buldtman paced Massac County (9-2) with 18 points. Lindsey Zeiler added 12.
Hopkinsville (2-6) got 16 points from Leigh Bollinger and 14 from J.J. Dail.
