Warner saga is a disguise
THIS WHOLE nonsense with Brenda Warner is so petty, but it least it helps take our minds off the fact that Mike Martz insisted on replacing Marc Bulger with Kurt Warner. The decision to take out a quarterback who led his team to five straight wins ranks right up there with some of the biggest bone-headed moves of our time.
A poll for all seasons
AS LONG as you're doing the SEMO Top 10 polls for basketball, try some creativity. How about the SEMO Top 10 poll for best uniforms, or the SEMO Top 10 poll for cutest team?
Or even a poll for the Top 10 bizarre suggestions.
Coverage makes a splash
THANKS FOR the great coverage of high school swimming so far. I hope you're able to get to a lot of the area high school meets for stories and pictures this season.
Sponsorship super-sized
I'M STILL not sure whether to sing the praises of the Southeast Missourian or curse it for changing the name of the U-High Christmas Tournament. It was just a matter of time before the effects of the infamous Weed Eater Independence Bowl mentality trickled down to our own small-town traditions. In fact, I sense a conspiracy. Are Poulan and the Southeast Missourian owned by the same conglomerate?
It's purely coincidence that our staff's lawns are so nicely trimmed.
Rooting for Miami
I SURE hope Miami kicks Ohio State's butt in the national championship game.
A minor suggestion
A FRIEND of mine tells me that Columbia has gained a minor-league baseball team that will start playing next year. I recall in the past that there was some talk of getting one inCape, but nobody ever seemed too eager in making the effort to do it. I'd like to see somebody step forward and say, once and for all, that Cape is ready and willing to do what it takes to get a team like that here. The effort surely would pay off because, if the team had any promotional ability at all, would draw enough people to games to at least keep it afloat. I hope somebody makes the effort before a town like Carbondale beats us to it.
