Ready for the game

AS A former player and alumnus of Jackson High, I know the feeling of the lights coming on and the talk of how this season will turn out. Never look back on the past. Always look toward the future, because what one year's football team does does not mean this year's will be the same. I have high hopes for this season, and all Jackson residents should. Just because you may lose one or two games doesn't mean you can't have fun and enjoy yourself with friends and family you haven't seen in a while.

Where will he go?

IT LOOKS like Mitch Craft is one heck of an athlete, just like his brother Lance. I played baseball with Lance. Do you feel like Mitch will go to a top Division I university?

There's speculation he could, but a lot may be decided over the next several weeks.

Define that, please

WOULD SOMEONE please tell me what they mean by franchise player? The past several weeks I've read it in reference to Orlando Pace and the Rams. What do they mean when they declare a franchise player and how does it effect him?

Under the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, a franchise player is one whose team must offer a one-year contract at the average of the five highest-paid player at the franchise player's position or a 20 percent increase, whichever is greater.

This is the season

FINALLY FOOTBALL. The layout, design, everything about the preview section is just awesome. Way to go. SEMO is No. 1.

A shared responsibility

THERE WERE no given rules for the Heartland Pride Select team, other than what common sense dictates: Be at practice on time, be at the game by a certain time, etc. The players abided by these and caused no problem to the manager or any one in his family. Managers should also be responsible for their actions and not leave the team and take the equipment the final day of a big tournament. Agreed?

A need for more news

I AM asking for more coverage at the race park in Benton. There are so many local drivers and fans at this race park, and very little is mentioned about them and the facility. Please do your part to show the public what goes on every Saturday night and what an entertaining evening it is. So many drivers have friends and family that would like to know the results and facts of the race and not much can be found in the paper about it.

Farden was a good choice

CONGRATULATIONS TO SEMO for making the best choice for the position of head gymnastics coach. Tom Farden is a coach the girls respect, work for and have fun with. I truly think this was the best move for the program. His ability to recruit top-notch girls is outstanding, and his love of the sport and his enthusiasm is contagious. The program should go further than before. After living with the possible closure of the program, the team needed someone to take them to the next level. Tom Farden is the person to do it.
