The bug stops here
Darrell Green has played for five head coaches and seen more than a dozen starting quarterbacks come and go since he began playing cornerback for the Washington Redskins in 1983.
But the one near-constant in Green's NFL career has been the Volkswagen bug he's driven to training camp each year. His 1966 blue bug made its 15th consecutive appearance when camp opened last week. Its predecessor lasted five years before conking out.
"This one has put its time in," the ageless Green told the Hampton Roads (Va.) Daily Press. "It's kind of like me. It's old and has some rough spots, but it's still going."
Verbatim
From Dwight Perry of the Seattle Times: "If you just awoke from a long coma this morning, we have good news for you. Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France yesterday. Larry Holmes won a fight and retired from boxing the night before. And Randy Johnson complained he gets no respect. In other words, welcome back. Not much has changed."
