Craig Biggio is getting $4 million more in guaranteed money as he prepares to move from second base to the outfield. The Gold Glove second baseman and the Houston Astros agreed to a one-year contract extension through 2004, a deal that contains a club option for 2005 and could be worth up to $9 million over two years.

Former National League MVP Ken Caminiti allegedly violated probation by using cocaine, and a warrant was issued Friday for his arrest. The 39-year-old Caminiti pleaded guilty to cocaine possession in March 2002. He entered a three-year community supervision agreement, meaning the conviction would not be on his record if he met the terms of the deal.

Toronto's Morris Peterson, Indiana's Al Harrington and Pacers coach Isiah Thomas were ejected from Friday night's game after a fight early in the fourth quarter. Harrington approached Peterson in an aggressive manner after Peterson tripped up Harrington while running downcourt on a fast break. Peterson appeared to throw a punch and a shoving match ensued.

Single-game tickets for the Kansas City Royals season go on sale Feb. 15, the team announced Friday. The tickets can be purchased at Kauffman Stadium, by phone, through the Royals official Web site and at 20 metro area Hy-Vee stores.

Longtime umpire Bruce Froemming has been suspended for 10 days and has lost his opening-day assignment in Tokyo for using an anti-Semitic slur to describe a major league baseball administrator, sources said. USA Today reported Friday that Froemming had been pulled from the Japan trip and was expected to be suspended for the slur.

Colleges

Missouri forward Jeffrey Ferguson was suspended Friday for two games after violating team rules, coach Quin Snyder said. Ferguson, a 6-foot-10 reserve, will miss today's game against Colorado and Monday's game against rival Kansas. Ferguson is averaging 2.1 points and 3.1 rebounds a game. Sam Fleury, the school's assistant director of media relations, declined to comment on the specifics of the rules violation, but said it was an internal issue and was not related to any kind of criminal conduct.

Golf

Hale Irwin began his quest to repeat as the top player on the Champions Tour by taking a share of the first-round lead Friday in the MasterCard Championship. Irwin opened the season with a 6-under-par 66 to forge a tie with Dana Quigley and Steve Veriato.

Tim Herron took his turn Friday, shooting the third 11-under-par 61 of the tournament and tying Stephen Ames for the third-round lead in the Bob Hope Classic. Herron and Ames, who had a 64, were at 22-under 194 after 54 holes in the five-day event.

Motorsports

Former CART champion Michael Andretti will retire as a driver after the Indianapolis 500 in May to concentrate on being a car owner.
