If Bell City was going to come out of South Iron on Saturday night with a victory against the state's top-ranked team in Class 2, Cubs senior Ethan Watkins was going to have to hit his free throws.
He did just that.
The point guard went to the free throw line 14 times in the fourth quarter and hit 13, allowing Bell City to hold off the previously unbeaten Panthers 72-60.
"I'll take my chances in that situation with Ethan handling the ball," Bell City coach Brian Brandtner said.

Watkins finished with a game-high 22 points, including one 3-pointer.
"It felt like a free-throw shooting contest in the last quarter," Watkins said. "They came out and started hammering on us, trying to stop the clock. They started doing that a lot earlier than I thought they would."
It was the biggest win of the week but not the only one for the Cubs.
Watkins scored 22 points with five 3-pointers in a 102-54 win against Oran.
