NEW YORK -- Jim Edmonds won a Gold Glove on Wednesday, extending the streak of awards he has earned since he joined the St. Louis Cardinals prior to the 2000 season.
Edmonds, a center fielder, was on the National League Gold Glove team for the sixth consecutive year. He has eight overall, including two from his seven seasons with the California/Anaheim Angels.
Edmonds this year made 318 putouts with six assists and committed two errors. His fielding percentage of .994 was his best since the 1996 season.
He was joined in the outfield by Atlanta center fielder Andruw Jones, an MVP candidate who won his eighth consecutive Gold Glove, and first-time winner Bobby Abreu of Philadelphia.
Chicago Cubs pitcher Greg Maddux won his 15th Gold Glove, one shy of the record shared by pitcher Jim Kaat and third baseman Brooks Robinson.
Maddux set a record for Gold Gloves won in the NL -- Kaat won 14 in the AL and two in the NL.
San Francisco shortstop Omar Vizquel won his 10th Gold Glove, his first in the NL after the nine straight he earned with the Cleveland Indians from 1993 to 2001.
Giants catcher Mike Matheny won his fourth overall and third straight.
Florida second baseman Luis Castillo won his third straight and third baseman Mike Lowell won for the first time.
Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee won for the second time.
Matheny earned a $100,000 contract bonus, while Edmonds earned $50,000.
