The East Prairie boys’ basketball team is ready to ruffle some feathers and defend its Scott-Mississippi Conference Championship.

While their roster may be smaller than some, the Eagles’ core group of players is determined to overachieve and make their mark on the season.

“I’m excited about another opportunity to coach a great group of young men who love to compete and play basketball,” said second-year coach Gary Scott. “It’s exciting to come to practice knowing they’re ready to get after it. Our goals are to be better than yesterday, be good teammates and play for each other.”

East Prairie is eager to build upon their recent success, having achieved just their second 20-win season in the past 15 years. Leading the charge is a trio of experienced and talented returners: Noah Johnson, Connor Marcum, and Evan Kennedy.

Johnson, a 6-foot-4-inch senior forward, has established himself as a dominant force on the court, earning first-team all-conference honors last season after averaging 13 points and six rebounds per game. His deceptive athleticism and scoring prowess make him a strong contender for the Conference Player of the Year award.

Marcum, a multifaceted 5-11 junior guard, brings a blend of speed, ball-handling skills, and playmaking ability to the team, averaging nine points and three assists per game last season.

Kennedy, a 6-5 senior center, anchors the paint with his imposing presence, averaging seven points and six rebounds per game last season. His potential to become one of the top big men in the conference is undeniable.

“Our strengths are we are more experienced and a year older,” Scott said. “Our younger guys learned a lot last year and hopefully it carries over. We expect to be competitive and take it one game at a time.”

The returning cast is further bolstered by the experience of 5-10 senior guard Kamron Farmer and 6-0 junior guard Ty Wallace, the duo bring depth and leadership to the team. Additionally, a trio of promising talents joins the varsity squad from the junior varsity ranks: 6-2 junior forward Tripp Shoemaker, 6-1 junior guard Braylan Cade, and 5-10 sophomore forward Tavion Ware. With this blend of experienced veterans and rising stars, the Eagles are committed to continuous growth and development, approaching each game as an opportunity to learn and improve.

East Prairie opens the season at the Gideon Bulldog Classic on Monday, Nov. 27.
