EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. — Rayne Jerrigan struck out eight batters and earned a win in his first varsity start on Wednesday, March 29.
Jerrigan threw six innings, allowing an earned run on three hits and led the East Prairie Eagles (3-2) to an 11-4 victory over the Risco Tigers (1-5) at East Prairie High School on Wednesday, March 29.
“I felt [Jerrigan] pitched an outstanding game,” said East Prairie coach Gary Scott. “He threw strikes and mixed it up well. Also, Finn Silman hit his first varsity home run. Those were cool moments for those two young men.”
Risco took an early 1-0 advantage in the first inning, but the Eagles answered with three runs in the bottom of the second inning after Will Jarvis stole home and Silman homered.
East Prairie finished the game with 12 hits and was led by Noah Johnson (2-for-3 with two runs scored), Rafe Byassee (2-for-4 with two RBIs and a scored run) and Winfield White (2-for-3 with three runs scored).
“We hit the ball pretty well today,” Scott said. “We got some timely hits early that pushed a few runs across to help us settle in. Defensively we have to play better. We have to make routine plays. Today we had 4 errors. In a closer game that will get you beat.”
East Prairie will travel to Scott City (5-0) on Thursday, March 30 and to Chaffee (4-1) on Monday, April 3.
Risco will host Scott County Central (0-2) on Monday, April 3.
