The Jackson American Legion team surrendered eight unearned runs Wednesday night at Dunklin County and lost a district matchup 19-9 in seven innings.
Austin Morrison gave up 13 runs in three-plus innings of work, allowing just five earned runs.
Bret Groening did not fare well in relief, allowing six runs -- all earned -- in 2 1/3 innings. Groening and Morrison combined for nine walks.
Austin Leimer had three hits and two RBIs for Jackson (3-6). Chad Minson and Geoff Enders added two hits apiece. Both of Enders' hits were doubles.
Jackson will be in action at the Jonesboro, Ark., Tournament this weekend.
The Cape Girardeau American Legion junior team split a doubleheader with Jackson on Tuesday.
Cape (4-5) won the opener 4-2 behind a four-hitter from Nick Allen. Allen struck out seven and walked one. Alex Shell provided a two-run single in the fifth.
The second game went to Jackson 18-15 in an error-filled contest. Jacob Valleroy, Blake Smith, Shell and Tyler Brandt had three hits apiece for Cape. Smith and Brandt each had three RBIs.
