The District 14 Junior Legion baseball tournament is scheduled to begin today at Capaha Field after wet field conditions caused Wednesday's action to be postponed.
Top-seeded Jackson Post 158 will take on fourth-seeded Sikeston Ladies Auxiliary Unit 114 at 4 p.m. today, followed by a game between second-seeded Cape Girardeau Plaza Tire Post 63 and No. 3 Advance Armor Seed at 6 p.m. The losing team from both games will play at 8 p.m.
First-round winners will play at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by an elimination game at 6 p.m. The winners from Friday's games will meet at 8 p.m. Saturday, and a final elimination game is slated for 8 p.m. Sunday, if necessary.
The Senior Babe Ruth double-elimination state tournament will take place July 15-19 at Hillhouse Park in Charleston, Missouri.
First-round action begins when the Jackson Cyclones take on the Riverbend Ducks, based in New Madrid, at 11 a.m. on July 15, followed by a game between the Potosi Elks and Wayne County Lumberjacks at 2 p.m. The SEMO Pirates of Leopold and Mid-Mo Peacocks will square off at 5 p.m. on July 15, followed by the nightcap between Mineral Area and the Charleston Fighting Squirrels at 8 p.m.
Action begins on July 16 with two elimination games at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., followed by winner's bracket semifinals at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The winner's bracket championship is scheduled for 5 p.m. on July 17, and three elimination games will take place at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
July 18 begins with an elimination game at 2 p.m., followed by a championship game at 5 p.m. A final championship game is slated for 2 p.m. on July 19, if necessary.
The Senior Legion game between Cape Girardeau Ford and Sons Post 63 and the Jackson Cyclones Senior Babe Ruth team was originally scheduled for Wednesday but has been moved to Tuesday.
Cape Girardeau will face Jackson Post 158 at 5 p.m. Friday in a nine-inning game at Saxony Lutheran High School. Post 63 will take on the host Charleston Fighting Squirrels in a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Saturday and will face host Sikeston Silver Sox Post 114 in a doubleheader at 6 p.m. Sunday.
