The Dexter Youth Wrestling club coached by Brody Roper. Brad Warner and Matt Terry recently achieved a great deal of success. The club is a 14 year old and under wrestling club for both boys and girls.
“During the year we have had several awesome things happen,” said coach Matt Terry. “At Missouri Nationals our (age) 6 under 45 lb wrestler Kaden Vanover won most outstanding 6 uunder wrestler. At the tomahawk challenge in Jackson, Taten Roper our 8u 60 lb won the Tomahawk for the 8u kids as most outstanding wrestler also placing 3rd at USA districts to advance to USA regionals and placing 4th in USA regionals to advance to USA state.”
“Our 12u 95 lb Korben Warner won the tripple crown where he won the Ozark district tournament, Missouri challenge tournament, and AAU state tournament to receive this award,” Terry continued. “Eli DeAlba is our 10u 70lbs who also advanced to regionals. We have had one girl wrestle with us on and off and her name is lillith Williams. She took 3rd in USA girls state under team action out of Poplar Bluff,”
Then my son Casen Terry. 10u 85lbs. He took second in USA districts, second in USA regionals, and first in usa state,” said Terry. “The reason making it to these is so huge is because of the competition level of each tournament. we are district 8.Which goes all the way to St. Louis.”
Terry explained that is no class difference just age and weight. This means any kid that age and weight can wrestle each other. Terry said the top 6 to advance to regionals then the top 4 in regionals to advance to state. Then the top 16 wrestlers in the state face off. Casen would bring the title home to Dexter after defeating Owen Lehman of Marksman Wrestling Club by fall in 52 seconds of the first round. In the second round he beat River Neal of Blue Pride Wrestling 9-7. He was victorious in the third round when he defeated Cannon Ruble of Throughbred 10-3. The finals match saw Casen face off against Keynu Neiswender of Palmyra. Casen won in an ultimate tie breaker of 7-6.
