The Dexter Lady Bearcats wrapped up their home schedule Thursday evening and Jackson put a damper on the evening. Jackson defeated the Bearcats 46-30.

The Lady Indians jumped out to 6-0 lead after three point baskets from Camryn Alsdorf and Rachel Berger. Kate Nichols hit a jump shot to get Dexter on the board and cut the lead to 6-2.

Holland Gulliams then nailed another trey for Jackson to increase the advantage to 9-2. Nichols then rattled off two jump shots and trey to cut the lead to 11-9. Lilly Watkins hit a two point shot for Jackson to give the the Lady Indians a 13-9 lead at the end of one quarter.

Jackson went on a 11-0 run in the second quarter to take a 24-9 lead. Dexter's offense struggled all evening to get shots to fall.

“We didn't shoot the ball good tonight,” said Dexter coach Eric Sitze. “I don't know what our shooting percentage was tonight but it wasn't good. We shot a lot of threes, we had a hard time trying to get it inside, we tried to get it inside and we had a hard time getting it inside. And when we did get it inside, sometimes we didn't finish but the offense was a struggle tonight.”

While the offense struggled to get on track, defense kept Dexter in the game. The Lady Bearcats went to the locker room down 25-14. The third period was defensive struggle with Jackson taking a 32-19 lead into the fourth Dexter opened the period on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 34-26. However a 10-0 run by Jackson stretched the lead to 44-26 and effectively put the game out of reach. Jackson went on to win 46-30.

“i thought the girls did a good job trying to come back at the end of the game,” said Sitze. “But a couple of turnovers hurt us late. When you have that good momentum, when you have that good momentum going you can't turn it over back to them, not when you are down 10, 12, 15 points. It was a tough night offensively for us.”

Sitze spoe about his teams objectives going down the stretch toward districts.

“We are just going to keep doing what we are doing, we are going to keep trying to get better,” said Sitze. “Improve our defense, I didn't think it was too bad tonight but you got to score more than 30 points. We are going to keep working on our offense, rebounding, You know offense isn't always there every night, you have got to stop people. We are just going to keep working on our defense and our rebounding and just hope our shots fall better.”

Jackson was led by Alsdorf with 11 points, Guilliams 9 points, Lilly Watkins 8, Katie St John 7, Addison Criddle 6, Rachel Berger 3 and Payton Gannon 1.

Dexter was led by Kate Nichols with 13 points, Mauriona Menley and Klaire Essner each with 6 and Karis Kennedy 5.

Dexter will next be in action at Doniphan on Tuesday and Jackson will host Car Jesu Academy on Saturday.
