Abbygail Powell homered in the eighth inning to walk it off for Bernie in an 8-6 win over Delta on Monday. Powell went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Mules in hits.
Delta fell despite out-hitting Bernie 15-9. The LadyCats held a 6-2 lead after the fifth inning, but the Mules scored one run in the sixth and three runs in the seventh inning to force extra innings.
"Sadie Hornbuckle and Trinity Vandeven both hit home runs and Bernie beat us by minor defensive errors," Delta head coach Jami Lacy said. "These kinds of games make it tough especially when we battled and kept them under the scoreboard all the way till the end of the game."
Olivia Wagoner threw 7.2 innings, allowing nine hits and eight runs while striking out 11.
"Her pitching is really incredible," Lacy said. "From not pitching since she was 12 years old in youth to starting games and facing tough teams is impressive."
Delta LadyCats Varsity launched two home runs on the day. Hornbuckle went for the long ball in the fifth inning. Vandeven had a dinger in the fifth inning.
Delta collected 15 hits, led by Addison Nichols and Jolie Scherer, who each knocked in three.
Delta hosts Woodland on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
