The top-seeded Delta girls basketball team coasted into the finals of its New Year's tournament.
Getting to Saturday's final was expected. The ease of the Bobcats' semifinal win against St. Vincent -- 64-26 -- was somewhat surprising. And their opponent in the final will be the No. 3 seed, Greenville.
"I thought we played pretty well," Delta coach Randy White said after his team improved to 8-1.
Ashley Deprow scored 19 points, Shea Smith added 17 and Kaci Menz chipped in with 16 for Delta. The Bobcats led 41-15 at halftime.
Jessica Welker led St. Vincent (5-4) with eight.
Greenville was just as impressive in beating second-seeded Oran 59-25
Greenville, which had trailed No. 6 Woodland heading into the final period Tuesday in the opening round, built a 31-12 halftime lead Wednesday. Sophomore Sarah Woodgeard scored 26 points for the Bears.
"They've got some kids that shoot the ball well," White said. "Woodgeard is one of the better athletes in the area. I believe it will be a good game."
The final is set for 5 p.m. Saturday. It will follow the 3:30 p.m. third-place game between St. Vincent and Oran. Chaffee and Woodland will play in the consolation final at 2 p.m.
Chaffee beat Puxico 54-22 on Wednesday behind 19 points from Mindy Hendrix and 15 from Kegan Orr.
Woodland beat first-year program Meadow Heights 47-21 with Francee VanGennip and Courtney Glastetter each scoring 10.
