In other first-round games, No. 5 Dexter upset No. 4 St. Vincent 39-32; No. 2 Portageville advanced past No. 7 Woodland 67-45; and No. 3 Chaffee beat No. 6 Oran 61-33

Tournament play resumes tonight.

Delta 71, Puxico 33

Jody Below led three Delta players in double figures with 12 points. Amanda McDaniels finished with 11 points and Paula Eftink tallied 10.

Delta built a 20-10 lead in the first quarter and led 38-13 at halftime.

Dexter 39, St. Vincent 32

Dexter broke open a one-point game by outscoring St. Vincent 11-5 in the fourth quarter. Dexter had taken a 28-27 lead into the final period.

Heather Galloway scored a game-high 15 points for Dexter. Becky Lorenz paced St. Vincent with 11.

Portageville 67, Woodland 45

Woodland led 13-12 after one quarter, but saw Portageville move ahead for good in the second quarter with a 19-8 outburst.

Nikki Anderson scored 19 points for Woodland and Jada Trentham added 17, but no other Lady Cardinal scored more than three points.

JaTonya Jones scored 19 for Portageville.

Chaffee 61, Oran 33

Chaffee's Renee Vandeven exploded for 26 points and Kate Nolen added 17 as Chaffee romped Oran.

Chaffee led 20-4 after the first quarter.

Freshaman Sara Heisserer led Oran with 10 points.

Boys basketball

Oran wins JV tournament

PUXICO -- Oran's JV basketball team won the Puxico JV Tournament Monday with a 79-69 victory over Dexter.

Billy Loper led five Oran players in double figures with 19 points.

Central 8th and 9th win

Cape Central's eighth and ninth grade basketball teams both beat Meridian, Ill., on Monday.

Central won the eighth grade game 28-27 to improve to 4-3. Matt Brandt had 11 points for Central.

The ninth grade Tigers won 89-56 and improved to 6-2.

Corey Lewis and Daniel Turner had 18 and 17 points respectively for Central.

Shawnee loses at home

ULLIN, Ill. -- Shawnee Community College lost a game at home to Kaskaskia, Ill., Monday 69-63.

Shawnee fell to 3-9.
