DELTA -- The Delta boys basketball team opened Class 1 District 2 play on its home floor with a 98-26 thumping of The Fulton School at St. Albans.

The third-seeded Bobcats jumped out to a 13-0 lead on their way to a win over the sixth-seeded Wildcats, something Delta coach Justin Simpher said was welcomed after his team lost to top-seed and top-ranked Scott County Central in its regular-season finale Friday.

"It's good to get out and get a game like that after the game we had Friday night," Simpher said about the lopsided win. "No matter what, if you get a win, it builds confidence, whether it's what you wanted. We can play that way against a lot of teams when we do it. I don't think it's a bad thing. They know that they've got a better team coming up tomorrow."

Delta will face No. 2 seed Oak Ridge at 7:30 p.m. today in the semifinal round.

"They're playing really well right now," Simpher said about Oak Ridge. "Defensively we're going to have to be better. They've got lots to offer and we're going to have to take away a lot of it. They've got some guys that can go to the hole, they've got big post players and they've got guys who can shoot, so we're going to have play good defensively."

The Bobcats forced six turnovers against The Fulton School in the first quarter and led 32-4 after the period.

"We told them make your defense turn into your offense and that's kind of what ended up happening," Simpher said. "Defensively, we got a lot of turnovers and went down and shot layups, which that should be the way it is all the time."

Delta allowed The Fulton School to score more than 10 points in a quarter just once while the Bobcats failed to score at least 20 points in all but one quarter.
