Crusaders post 59-47 victory over Chaffee

Bret Steffens poured in 17 points to lead Saxony Lutheran to a 59-47 victory against Chaffee in boys basketball action Friday.

Austin Kwikkel added 14 points and 11 rebounds and Ben Courtois netted 13 points to help the Crusaders (5-2).

Andy Hendrix led Chaffee with 14 points.

Perryville stuck with Sparta, Ill., for one quarter, but the Pirates couldn't maintain the pace in the tournament's fifth-place game.

Sparta earned the 59-46 win.

Kendra Schilli led the Pirates with 12 points, and Alyssa Bauwens added 11.

Lauren Johnson poured in 16 points and Taylor Steckman added 10 points as Woodland used a big third quarter to pull away from Saxony Lutheran in the seventh-place game.

The Cardinals earned the 44-32 victory.

The Crusaders were led by Kara Versemann with 14 points and River King netted eight points.
