The SEMO Horseshoe Pitchers Association held a pair of tournaments this past weekend.
In Saturday's competition in Scott City, the team of Carolyn Schreckenberg and Larry Glastetter bested a field of nine teams. Jason Raines and Wesley Stoverink finished second, with Joe Bean and Daniel Braun in third.
Sunday's tournament was held in Leopold, where Edgar Stoverink and Ron LeGrand took the top spot out of 10 teams. Wesley Stoverink and Virgil Schreckenberg finished second with Randy Senciboy and Dawn Morrow in third.
The organization's next competition will be Saturday at Oran JC Park at 1 p.m.
Events are open to all ages and food and beverages are available.
More than 100 participants turned out for the 2016 Furry 5K presented by Fiteness Plus on Saturday.
Competing in the male ages 45-49 division, Doug Ambler was the competition's overall male winner with a time of 19 minutes, 34.92 seconds. Ashley Schmittzehe, competing in the female 20-24 bracket, was the overall female winner with a time of 20:07.50.
Other male winners were Caden McBride (14-and-under, 23:13.59), Matthew Hileman (25-29, 21:38.27), Kellan True (30-34, 22:01.09), Kirt Burger (35-39, 26:23.06), Chris Shabbing (40-44, 39:21.16), Steve Schmittzehe (50-54, 20:45.10), Terry Rawlings (55-59, 30:54.29) and Mitch Gerber (60-plus, 24:48.78).
Other female winners were Carlee Smith (14-and-under, 37:16.00), Whitney Miller (25-29, 26:21.01), Katie Hileman (30-34, 26:13.88), Karla Cornelius (35-39, 26:14.64), Alice McRoberts (40-44, 29:19.22), Leslie Compass (45-49, 34:02.76), Suzanne Garoian (50-54, 26:16.38), Kathy Leimer (55-59, 27:38.80) and Kathy Jameson (60-plus, 50:42.69).
The event was open to both runners and their dogs, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Saint Francis Medical Center Inpatient Rehabilitation pet therapy program.
The 2016 Gateway PGA Junior Tour is underway, with eight tournaments still to play in the Southeast Missouri Section.
The competition is open to boys and girls ages 10-19, broken into three different age groups, as well as both 18-hole and 9-hole divisions.
Cost for 9-hole registration is $155, while 18-hole regular or 18-hole tour registration is $200.
Remaining dates include Dalhousie Golf Club (June 15), Bent Creek Golf Course (June 20), Cape Jaycee Golf Course(June 22), Kimbeland Country Club (June 27) and Cape Girardeau Country Club (June 29), as well as stops in Kennett, Poplar Bluff and Sikeston.

A cumulative point system that takes the best four of nine tournaments will qualify the top three point winners per age group for the year-end Gateway PGA Championship. Participants must register as a tour member by July 1 at gatewaypga.org/jrgolf in order to be eligible.
