The Southeast Missouri State (2-3) softball team rebounded from a season-opening sweep at Louisiana Tech with a doubleheader sweep on the road, defeating Saint Louis (2-5) first by a 10-9 margin in 10 innings followed by a 7-4 win in the back half.
Center fielder Paige Halliwill led the Redhawks with four hits across 17 innings in the two wins, including a home run in the second game, as the Redhawks generated a run-per-inning 17 runs.
Paytience Holman recorded a save in the first game and a win in the second, pitching 7.2 innings and striking out eight batters, allowing just three runs to cross among 35 batters faced.
Delaney Kell earned the win in the first game for the Redhawks, coming in for Marisa Davis and pitching 7.1 innings before her replacement by Holman with an out in the 10th inning.
Southeast Missouri State prepares to take part in the Frost Classic hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The Redhawks begin play at 12:30 p.m. on Friday against the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (6-5).
