Tessa Johnson bucketed a game-high 19 points but it wasn't enough as the sixth-seeded Hawks narrowly missed an opportunity to advance to the semifinals in a 56-52 loss to third-seeded New Madrid County Central.

Stephanie Worth tallied eight points and 10 rebounds for Kelly, which finished the season at 17-9. Payton Jones, the only senior on the Hawks' roster, finished with eight points in her final game of her high school career.

Kelly coach Rod McQuerter said that Jones's leadership was key to the Hawks' season this year.

"It was an outstanding season. I'm very proud of our lone senior Payton Jones," he said. "She really held us and the girls really had a good season being led by her."

After ending the regular season on a six-game winning streak and losing only one senior to graduation, McQuerter is looking forward to next season.

"We're excited," he said. "Their outlook and attitude is positive, and that's the main thing to continue to have a positive attitude."

Whitney Williams led New Madrid County Central (12-12) with 17 points and Rashaunda Summers added 15 points.
