Of the three local pitchers who led their teams to district softball championships on Saturday afternoon, only one propelled a lower seed past a higher seed.

Oran's Claire Seyer, a junior, scattered five hits and four walks in the Eagles' 8-1 win against the top-seeded Delta Bobcats. The only run Seyer allowed was scored in the bottom of the last inning, with her team already rolling toward the district crown.

"I knew the top of their lineup was good," Seyer said after the game. "I just think the atmosphere and everybody out here just made me pitch that much better."

She contributed to her cause offensively with an RBI single in the first inning and finished with two hits in the game, which was played before a standing-room crowd at Oran City Park.

The effort helped Oran avenge a 7-1 loss to Delta at home in late September.

Seyer also stepped up after admittedly struggling in Friday's semifinal win against Naylor. She allowed five runs in the first four innings of that game but only two were earned as Oran committed four errors. She allowed seven hits and struck out five over seven innings as Oran rallied for an 11-5 victory.
