ST. LOUIS -- Cape Girardeau Central High's softball squad completed a strong Cor Jesu Tournament here Saturday by finishing second in the eight-team field.

Central won its two games Friday in pool play, then lost to Cor Jesu 6-5 Saturday in pool play. Still, the Lady Tigers won their pool to advance to the final later Saturday.

Notre Dame from St. Louis hammered the Lady Tigers 9-1 in the championship game.

"Notre Dame has an outstanding team," said Central coach Don Lang. "But I felt like our girls really had a good tournament. Friday was particularly good when we won both games."

The Lady Tigers, now 3-2 on the season, had eight hits in Saturday's loss to Cor Jesu. Abby Harris, Kristy Wallis and Brandy Brown all had two hits.

Central managed just one hit against Notre Dame.
