Christmas Tournament: Seyer's nine 3-pointers lead Oak Ridge past Bell City

Hunter Seyer scored 29 points -- including nine 3-pointers -- as Oak Ridge bombed Bell City 77-37 in a consolation quarterfinal of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament at the Show Me Center.

The 11th-seeded Blue Jays (8-2) rained down a total of 17 3-pointers on the 14th-seeded Cubs (0-9), establishing control early and never letting go.

"I thought we showed a lot of intensity from the beginning," said Oak Ridge coach Adam Stoneking. "When you're knocking down every shot, it's kind of easy."

Seyer's effort matched that of Oran's Kody Moore, who also had nine 3-pointers in last year's 68-64 tournament loss to Chaffee in a consolation semifinal.

Teammate Kelby Brown had six 3-pointers for a total of 18 points.

"They were just making their shots," Stoneking said of his sharpshooters. "You just let the guys run their offense, and just let them play."

Seyer credited his teammates with getting him the ball in open areas of the court.

"We had a lot of good passes inside," Seyer said. "It opens up out shooters outside."

Bell City coach Steve Wells credited Oak Ridge for bouncing back after its opening-round loss to Leopold.

"They had their struggles last night with Leopold. They seemed to have that rectified today," Wells said.

Wells said his winless squad has to remain positive.

"The season is a marathon, it's not a sprint. You have to look at the long term," Wells said.

Colbey Gammons topped Bell City with 10 points.
