DELTA, Mo. -- Charleston's Missy Whitney negated a dramatic comeback by Delta, tipping in a missed free throw at the buzzer for a 46-45 victory in high school girls basketball action Thursday night.

Whitney and teammate Tyshanta Williams each finished with 19 points.

Delta (5-3) had rallied from a 12-point deficit with just over three minutes remaining to take the lead in the closing moments. A pair of free throws by Rebecca Below, who finished with a game-high 22 points, gave the Lady Bobcats a 45-44 lead with 11 seconds remaining. Delta then fouled Williams, who missed the front end of a one-and-one, but Whitney, a 5-foot-11 sophomore, deposited the game winner on the rebound as time expired.

"I was proud of our kids," said Delta coach Randall White. "They played hard and could've let up late down by 12."

Charleston led throughout the game, ahead 24-16 at halftime and 38-28 entering the fourth quarter.

Sarah Cook added 10 points for Delta.
