Charleston boys avenge loss to Jackson 63-49

Charleston's boys basketball team gained a measure of revenge Tuesday night by knocking off visiting Jackson 63-49.

The Blue Jays lost to the Indians in the semifinals of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament. Charleston, the state's top-ranked Class 3 squad, improved to 17-1. Jackson fell to 17-4.

Ashton Farmer led the Blue Jays with 21 points. Joshua Strayhorn had 15 and Marcus Biles 10.

Tyler McNeely paced the Indians with 12 points. Jackson trailed 34-23 at halftime.

Scott City 77, Bell City 55Scott City used a big second half to turn an expected tight matchup between state-ranked teams into a rout.

The visiting Rams outscored the Cubs 40-16 over the final two quarters to wipe out a two-point halftime deficit. Scott City is ranked ninth in Class 3 and Bell City is ranked second in Class 1.

Mark Dannenmueller poured in 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Rams (15-3). Tyler Ward added 15 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks.

Bell City (17-3) star Dominitrix Johnson was held to 14 points.
