CHARLESTON -- Chaffee High softball coach Mark Devenport said he was glad that his star senior pitcher, Jamie Duncan, finally has another no-hitter to her credit.

Duncan fired a five-inning gem Tuesday as the Lady Red Devils pounded host Charleston 13-0 in a run-rule contest.

Duncan, who had a no-hitter as a freshman, struck out nine and walked one. Chaffee and Duncan are now both 2-0 on the young season.

"I'm proud of Jamie," said Devenport. "She's come close a few more times the last few years but she just couldn't finish it off. It's nice to see her finally get another one."

Chaffee had only six hits, no player getting more than one. Jill Little drove in two runs.

BASEBALL

Chaffee 4, Charleston 2

CHARLESTON -- Matt Stroup provided a squeeze bunt in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie as the Red Devils improved to 2-0 on the season Tuesday.

Tommy Stidham picked up the win for Chaffee in two innings of relief. He entered the game in the bottom of the fifth with the bases loaded and nobody out, but threw a double-play ball and struck out a batter to thwart a Charleston rally. Stidham struck out three, walked two and held the Blue Jays hitless in the final two innings.

Phillip Blevins started the game and pitched four solid innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks. He struck out four.

"Phillip pitched out of some jams too," Chaffee coach Bruce Qualls said. "He threw the ball real well until the fifth inning. He kept us in it."

Jeremy Lynn was the only Chaffee player with two hits. Garrett Senciboy and Matt Graham each doubled.

Chaffee has a big game today, hosting Notre Dame.

BENTON -- Kelly picked up its first win of the season Tuesday by pounding Oak Ridge in five innings.

The Hawks, now 1-1-1, had just nine hits but benefited from numerous Oak Ridge miscues. John Welter, Bradley Kolwyck and John Heuring all had two hits. Heuring drove in three runs and Welter added two RBIs.

"It's good to get in the win column," said Kelly coach Mike Scott. "We got a good pitching performance out of a sophomore in his first varsity start."

Oran 9, Leopold 1

LEOPOLD -- Dustin Glastetter allowed one run and two hits in five innings while striking out seven Tuesday as the Eagles rolled to their fourth win in as many tries this season.
