CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Chaffee scratched out three seventh-inning runs to edge Poplar Bluff 5-4 in a SEMO Conference baseball game.

Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Chaffee's G. P. Glueck singled to knot the score, after two Poplar Bluff errors and a passed ball had put Chaffee runners on second and third.

Another passed ball, an intentional walk to Rusty Duncan and a bunt single by Shawn Powderly loaded the bases before Glueck raced home with the winning run on a grounder to second by Zac Horman.

Horman, in relief of an ineffective Glueck, pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win.

The Red Devils (4-1, 3-1) managed only six hits, with Powderly and Glueck getting two each.

Cape Central 2, St. Vincent 2

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- St. Vincent's girls soccer team gained some confidence Thursday by managing a tie with 4A Cape Central, less than a week after falling 4-0 to the Lady Tigers in the Noon Optimist Tournament.

For St. Vincent (3-2-1), a 1A school, Caitlin Hoeh scored both goals.

"I'm very pleased," St. Vincent coach Eric Long said. "They played very hard. Any time you can tie a team as big as Cape Central, it's a big plus."

Trisha Klipfel and Amber Voerg combined for both goals.

Klipfel scored off a Voerg pass for Cape Central's first goal, while Voerg scored on Klipfel's assist for the second goal.

Central (3-1-2) led 2-1 at halftime and the Squaws tied it midway through the second half.

"Both teams had some chances after it was tied," Cape Central coach Tom Doyle said. "I thought we dominated the game in the first half, we just didn't score and didn't finish. In the second half, we didn't do much of anything. It was a little disappointing."
