CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Adam Friga got the win on the mound and hit a three-run homer as the Chaffee Medicap Pharmacy American Legion baseball team beat Ballard County (Ky.) 4-2 in the opener of a doubleheader.
Chaffee (16-8) then claimed a 5-2 win in the nightcap.
Friga, in 6 1/3 innings, allowed seven hits and a walk while striking out seven. Matt Stroup struck out two in earning the save. Friga and Todd Friend each had two of Chaffee's six hits.
In the second game which went just five innings, Scott Eftink picked up the win. He went four innings and struckout four while allowing two runs and two hits.
Andrew DePeder picked up the save, striking out two in one inning.
Cape Yankees sweep Dexter
The Cape Yankees, a 16-year-old Senior Babe Ruth team, swept Dexter Wednesday night, winning a doubleheader by scores of 10-9 and 8-3.
The opener went nine innings with Garrett Williams picking up the win with four innings of relief. He struck out five, walked no one and allowed nine hits.
Williams had three hits, including a home run.
Brennan Gibson went the distance in the nightcap to capture the win. He gave up five hits, one walk and struck out five.
The Yankees are 16-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play.
