GOLF Poplar Bluff Invitational

Poplar Bluff easily won its own 12-team tournament, shooting 300 to finish 22 strokes ahead of Sikeston.

Central tied for the third-best score at 325, but placed fourth based on the No. 5 score. Two other local squads, Notre Dame (337) and Jackson (356), were sixth and seventh, respectively.

Poplar Bluff's Trent Hillis was the medalist with a 1-under 69 at Westwood Hills Country Club.

The top local scores were a 74 by Central's Tim Simmons, who finished fourth, and a 77 by Notre Dame's Brett Slaten.
